Halong Bay 19 April 2014

We boarded a small bus on the morning of Good Friday destination Halong Bay for an overnight stay in a junk.

Half way through the journey we had a stop for the "happy place " or toilet at a ceramanics factory. I painted a wee plate but as it hasn't been fired yet and I'm' not sure it will make it home.

Arriving at Halong Bay we quickly boarded our home for the night.

The photo below does not do it justice. Inside it was lined in varnished wood with airconditioned cabins with bathrooms. We were served an amazing meal as we cruised through a landscape that would not be out of place in Lord of the Rings.

This is a world heritage site, a bay littered with islands the size of small mountains.

An optional kayaking opportunity saw us skimming through the serene waters. And a small climb took us into caves with staligtites and stalagmites thousands of years old.
