Observations in Vietnam - April 2014

The most people we have seen on a motorbike is 4.

The best was a scooter with six crates of live ducks on the back and a woven basket at his feet with more ducks.

Heaps of people wear face masks in Hanoi, because of the dust and pollution.

Houses are very skinny because in the old days they paid tax on the amount of road frontage.

In the paddy fields there are often tombstones- family must make good fertiliser.

The traffic system is that you beep your horn to say that you are coming through and then go for it.

When crossing the busy street you just walk out into the traffic, keep an even pace. Not too fast, not too slow and the cars, trucks, buses, bicycles, scooter and motorbike just stop or go around you.

Kids stay up very late.
